SEASON 1 | EPISODE 18: Rio - Part II

We continue our adventures in Rio - so much to do, so little time. We couldn't fathom NOT doing some of the touristy stuff while in Rio. So we spent some quality time visiting the stunning Christ the Redeemer in Corcovado, and also taking the gondolas up to the Sugarloaf Mountain to enjoy two different panoramic views of Rio in all its glory. But we also had some unusual experiences, thanks to Rodrigo's long-time friend Adriano and his better half, Patricia, who know all the best there is to do in the city: we visited the almost hidden Gigoia Island, only accessible by boat; went up to the top of one of the largest slums in Rio, Vidigal, for another breathtaking view of the Cidade Maravilhosa; and enjoyed a traditional Brazilian feast at a popular local restaurant. Lastly, Rodrigo describes how he conquered his fear of flying, and the group takes a bike tour through some of the most iconic Rio neighborhoods under a blazing 94 F sun!

SEASON 1 | EPISODE 17: Rio - Part I

Our first adventure in Brazil is in beautiful Rio de janeiro. Our experience was 100% positive - forget all the negativity and bad reputation the city has garnered over decades about urban violence and abject poverty. Rio exudes exuberance in every imaginable way. We divided our time between a cool penthouse and a friend's apartment, both located just two blocks from the beach. Our days were enjoyed basking in the sun in the famous Ipanema Beach (the birth place of the Bossa Nova movement), lounging, and preparing for the amazing fireworks show in Copacabana for New Year's Eve (and Marco's Birthday.) Watch how beach life is done right, and learn the best and most natural way to cure a jellyfish sting!

The gran finale of our incredible journey through Argentina is the breathtaking Peninsula Valdez, a UNESCO World Heritage sight on the edge of Patagonia. Settled in the small village of Puerto Piramides, we dive into unforgettable experiences with nature and fauna: watching Southern Right Whales (and their babies!) from a boat, visiting one of the largest Magellanic Penguin colonies in the world, observing the unique guanacos, and kayaking with sea lions! Up next: BRAZIL!

SEASON 1 | EPISODE 15: Road Trip - Part 2

From winos to dinos, we add about 1400 km to our road trip! In Mendoza we try spectacular red wines and a unique 7 course meal at a famous winery - a significant improvement over the usual road trip munchies everyone was getting sick of. We head to Neuquen - Argentina's own "Jurassic Park" - to explore the incredible paleontological sites and museums, and learn about the mythical figure of Gauchito Gil. Up next: Peninsula Valdez.

EPISODE 13

The first stop on our road trip across Argentina is the beautiful Estancia La Porteña, in the Pampas region. This stunning historical site near San Antonio de Areco receives guests from all over the world, and was recently featured in the popular CBS show "Amazing Race." Despite the crazy roads damaged by a devastating flood, the Estancia was fully prepared to offer us three incredible days eating every two hours (from non-stop Argentinian wine to delicious Asado feasts), interacting with a fun group of authentic Gauchos and experiencing a small sliver of their traditional habits, such as horseback riding, music and dance. Up next: Road Trip!

EPISODE 12

Buenos Aires is considered the "Paris of South America." And rightly so! The stunning and vibrant capital of Argentina is a harmonious combination of old charm and contemporary lifestyle - amazing food, rich art and culture scene, turbulent history and classic arquitecture, unique music and dancing. We explore the Recoleta neighborhood, celebrate Halloween, visit a famous Cemetery, watch a traditional Tango show, and join a secret dinner with strangers. Find out why we were instantly smitten with the "Portenos" and the vast array of experiences this incredible city offers visitors, including some of the best ice cream we ever tried! Up next: Road Trip!

EPISODE 11

Our final days in Chile are filled with sun drenched vineyards and winery hopping in the Casablanca Valley! This time we find the best red blend (6 different grape variatals!) at one of the only fully organic wineries in Chile (Emiliana), taste a Sauvignon Blanc made from grapes selected from 5 different vineyards at a boutique winery (Quintay), experience memorable bubbly and our best meal in Chile (Vina Mar), and get an unnexpected whif at an award-winning winery (Casas del Bosque.) After so much wine, we're ready to take on our next stop: Argentina!

EPISODE 10

Chillin' in Chile. Las Cruces was the epitome of slow traveling. For two weeks we parked at this quaint and (nearly) deserted summer town enjoying our cute rental home near the beach - cooking, baking, road schooling and side tripping to wine taste. We even had chilli in a particularly chilly day! Bonus: our day trip to the colorful port town of Valparaiso. Up next: Casablanca Valley.

EPISODE 9

Our first wine tasting episode - featuring our visit to the beautiful Colchagua Valley in Chile. We get lost heading from Santiago to the region of Santa Cruz, but encounter many, many good opportunities for wine tasting on the way. This episode covers the following wineries: Casa Silva (the oldest and grandest of settings), Montgras (the best wine lesson with the most enthusiastic sommelier), Laura Hartwig (the quaintest) and Viu Manent (the best Malbec in Chile!) Watch two of the sommeliers in the two best wineries guide us through their process and teach us about what makes a great wine!

Beautiful Santiago wasn't quite right for us. But we managed to do some interesting sightseeing despite a less than ideal lodging situation. We take in two mountains (one by foot and the other by funicular), do a walking tour, visit the former home of the great Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, spend Rodrigo's birthday at an Argentinian restaurant and get up close and personal with driving in South America.

Rock slides and Inca skies - sadly, our time in Peru ends in Cusco. We explore the Ancient Inca capital, enjoy the amazing natural rock slides of Saqsaywaman, and learn about the Astronomy of the Incas at an incredibly unassuming planetarium. Marco gets up close and personal with a young alpaca and eats a rodent for the first time. Next stop: Chile!

EPISODE 6

Our first exclusive gastro-experience episode! In the small town of Aguas Calientes, the main hub for those going to Machupicchu, Marco and Rodrigo take a private cooking class on Peruvian food the day after our visit to the ancient ruins, at the fabulous Tree House Restaurant. The two play bartenders making Pisco Sours and Maracuya Sours (with and without Pisco), then head to the kitchen to prepare three dishes using potatoes, ceviche, alpaca meat and quinoa as prime ingredients. And did we say Marco was the first child to ever take that course? This mouth watering episode will leave you hungry for more, guaranteed.

EPISODE 5

Nearly 20 years in the making, the Machupicchu episode is finally here! Beautiful, ancient, mysterious, spiritual. Whatever you call it, you have to see this place in person to believe it - but we think our episode is the next best thing. We brave out the effects of altitude and are rewarded with breathless beauty - no pun intended. And we experience a couple of Indiana Jones moments as well! Was it worth it? Watch and decide.

On the way to the beautiful ruins of Pisac Bella and Heather take selfies with a friendly Llama while Rodrigo has a close encounter with a Condor. Hiking up we battle altitude sickness, get stuck in tunnels and walk alongside chasms - and we couldn't have done any of it without our incredible local guide Isaias.

Watch what happens when we hike up to our first set of ancient ruins under the influence - that is, under the effects of high altitude sickness. It's election year in Peru while Marco eats alpaca burgers and makes an unnexpected friend at the lodge. We all get stuck in our first traffic jam going uphill on a narrow road and finally get saved by nuns!

TEASERS

SEASON 1 | RTW REEL

So many extraordinary experiences, perfect places, memorable moments comprised our journey. Our first RTW Reel is just a small fragment of those experiences. Everything was shot handheld and in the heat of the moment, completely unscripted. We believe in the everlasting impact of stories - strong and truthful narratives illustrated by beautiful, effective visuals. We hope our story might inspire other people to travel more and discover their dormant wanderlust.

SEASON 1 | ARGENTINA

Argentina! Home of the Tango, intrepid Gauchos, award-winning wines and exquisite landscapes. We had many great experiences in this amazing country while road-tripping from elegant Buenos Aires, through wine-drenched Mendoza, to fascinating Peninsula Valdez. For 10 days we drove 5,000 + Km through the Pampas to the edge of Patagonia and could barely scrape the surface of all that Argentina has to offer travelers. Here is a short teaser featuring some highlights of the upcoming episodes.

So much so that we decided to share a few scenes from our unforgettable experience there while we finish the SEASON 1 South America episodes (Chile, Argentina and Brazil.) Meet Bretton, our Kruger National Park game drive guide, as he takes us through a day in his "office." Zebras, Elephants, rhinos, giraffes, impalas, lions, buffalo, hyenas, baboons, hippos and even the legendary black mamba snake - we had many unexpected encounters with these majestic animals and can't wait to share them with you.

SEASON 1 | PERU TEASER

Our journey begins in beautiful Peru! We spent 3 weeks in Peru and we are ready to share our fantastic experiences. This is the teaser for our upcoming Season 1 episodes. Peru had very uneven and unreliable wi fi service, so we weren't able to upload much content. From sampling amazing typical food in up-and-coming Lima, through the humbling streets of Ollantaytambo at the base of the Inca Trail, to the mystical ruins of Machupicchu, Peru offers an array of unforgettable adventures - and we certainly had our share of those!

EPISODE ZERO : PREVIEW

In just over 3 minutes, this video covers our "trial run" trip to Europe during the Summer of 2014. We call it a "trial run" because we were able to identify many of the things that we think will work really well and also the pesky details we must avoid while on our RTW trip. We zapped through France and Italy using planes, trains, bikes, vaporetos, and automobiles - well, one small Fiat Panda. The trip was a celebration of Gretchen's parents 50th Anniversary. We started in Paris, France, then flew to Venice, Italy, where we met other members of Gretchen's family along the way, culminating in a beautiful Villa outside of Naples where 14 of us stayed for a week. The 4 of us took the opportunity to also visit Rome, Assisi, Perugia, Sorrento, Florence, and Sestri Levante. Heather stayed in Seattle preparing for the big RTW trip.
